The Hitch- Hiker - By Lily

The following writing is inspired by The Hitchhiker by Roald Dahl

I was driving along in my new shiny, silver car heading up to New Plymouth. It was a crisp summer morning and all the flowers and grass were dancing in the slight, warm summer breeze. The sun was streaming through the window as I lay back in my seat keeping just one eye on the road.

Then I saw him. The tall, frail man swaying with his thumb out. A hitch hiker!

His eyes swiveled over to me as I stared at him, he looked quite... sneaky. I pulled up next to him so suddenly, causing my car screech and stop with a halt.

I tried to get a closer look at him and brushed my hair out of my eyes.

A scruffy old leather jacket covered his shoulders warming him up. His jeans ripped at the knees with scabs in the holes,he seemed that every inch of his body was covered in a scar. I looked up at his eyes they squinted at me. The happiness of the day suddenly went away and was replaced with a grey sky and no happiness. I looked straight ahead as if I never saw him and started my engine up again and drove away.

In about half and hour I finally got up to New Plymouth and felt exhausted. I switched the t.v on While my eyes drooped. I woke up with a start and I saw him again, the man I was about to pick up and take him in my car. The hitch hiker.
